Hey ie girls!!
WOW! What a weekend we had in Brantford last weekend! It was awesome to meet so many of you girls, moms, grandmas, and mentors from across Ontario!!
Remember...your past does not disqualify you. Your sin and shame does not mean that you can never live a life less ordinary. But Jesus died on the cross and rose again so that we each could accept God's gift of salvation, to know God personally and have our sins forever forgiven because Jesus Christ paid the price. God wants to take the broken pieces of your life and turn it into something beautiful!
Dream big and remember: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity." (1 Timothy 4:12) You are never too young to make a difference!
What is one thing you can do to take the first step towards your dream? Maybe it's doing well on your tests so you can one day go to university to study in your area of interest. Maybe it's joining a choir or taking voice lessons to pursue your dream of singing. Maybe it's starting a daily journal to take a step towards being a professional writer. You might volunteer at an animal shelter to prepare for becoming a veterinarian one day. Research other countries of the world, how they live and what they believe to step towards being a missionary.
Whatever it is, commit to take the next step. Then the next, and the next...letting God lead you each step of the way!
Love and big hugs,
Michelle

Hi everybody!
Wow, it's been way too long since I last posted here...lots going on in ie girl land!
One exciting thing I wanted to tell you about is that the president of Women Alive, Margaret Gibb, and I were on the Canadian TV show, 100 Huntley Street on March 12th to promote ie girl. It was a great opportunity for us to spread the word about ie girl to people watching across the country!
Click here to watch the program online (scroll down to Download the March 12th broadcast - we were interviewed during the first twenty minutes of the show)
AND, more exciting news!
I have been invited back to be a Guest Co-Host on 100 Huntley Street's "Full Circle" on Friday, May 1, 2009. We will be interviewing model and speaker, Tressa Lemke and talking all about purity and modesty with teen girls. How awesome is that?!
Be sure to check it out! Click here for channel listings to find 100 Huntley Street in your area.

Happy New Year ie girls!
I don't know about you, but the beginning of a new year is usually an extra-hopeful time for me. A fresh start, a chance to look at things from a new perspective, a time to reflect on what God has done in my life in the past year and pray and ask God what He might have in store for the year ahead. I take time every January to write down memories from the past year and to renew or make new commitments to the Lord.
This year, as I thought back on 2008, I'll be honest...I'm usually a joyful, positive person, but the first things that came to mind were not positive, they were painful. Challenges, trials, heartache, grieving. Not fun stuff. Stepping back from a friendship that tore me down instead of building me up, mourning with a close friend who lost their mom to suicide, losing my grandma, saying goodbye to precious friends who I won't get to see as often anymore, seeing people close to me reject Jesus, unexpected sad changes beyond my control, and seeing areas of my own life that were hindering my relationship with Christ. And that's just the big stuff, not to mention other little discouragements and trials that seemed to pop up out of nowhere.
Yep, it was a tough year. I felt stuck. Ever been there?
I asked God to help me remember through His Word that He is in control, loves me unconditionally, and that He knows my heart. See, I know that God is bigger than my problems, and circumstances can change on a dime.
I asked God to help me remember the GOOD things that happened in 2008 - to help me see beyond the brokenness and see the blessings, and WOW, He did not disappoint! I ended up with a list an entire page long of AWESOME, encouraging things that God did in my life last year! I went through my journals and remembered times that had started to fade in my memory...meeting incredible girls in Montreal, leading worship for the EFC National Prayer Leaders Retreat, rejoicing with new believers at my church, watching my best friend marry an incredible godly guy (hello! That's HUGE! hehe), helping with youth worship and becoming friends with some awesome 11-year-old girls (shoutout to Michaela, Katie, and Sophia!), precious times with God as He opened my eyes to sin in my life and the 'heart surgery' he performed on me through it, reconnecting with our ie teams at our November ie girl and getting to know some of our sold-out crowd of girls, moms, and leaders; spending an awesome week with my friend Lauren at Kingdom Bound (where I first met Hello Kelly!), encouraging prayer times and fun girls nights, laughing til it hurts, rockin' out to Vicky Beeching, Bethany Dillon and Starfield, and learning more about what it means to trust God with the future, especially when it can seem uncertain. I turned 25 -- oh yeah! -- an exciting, awesome, inspiring, joy-filled time of life.
Yes, that's right....despite the pain this last year held, God proved His love and faithfulness to me through it. He reminded me that He will never leave me nor forsake me (Hebrews 13:5), that He has a plan for my life, to give me hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11), and that He knows my heart.
If you haven't already, I encourage you to take a few minutes to find a quiet place with a cup of hot chocolate and write down the highlights from 2008. It might seem that the tragedies outnumber your triumphs, but I'm willing to guess that if you ask God to remind you of His blessings and the ways He was at work in your life that you'll end up with a longer list of blessings than brokenness.
Then, write your hopes for 2009. Ask God to show you what His dreams are for your life and how you can make a difference for Christ this year in your church, school, and community.
I would love to hear what God did in your life in 2008, what you’re looking forward to in 2009, and how our ie girl team can be praying for you!
Love and hugs for a HOPE-FILLED new year,
Michelle
P.S. Hope to see you in Niagara Falls February 27-28, 2009!

Hello!!
It was AWESOME to meet all of you girls, moms, and leaders at our ie girl Eastern Canada Weekend on Friday and Saturday! To finally put faces to the names that our teams have been praying for by name was so much fun.
We want to hear your stories of how you were impacted through the weekend, what stood out to you, and how you're now living it out -- inspiring excellence in your own school, family, church, or community, based on the Truth, God's Word!
Remember our theme verse: 1 Timothy 4:12
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity."
Big hugs,
Michelle :)

Hello ie girls,
It is with heavy hearts that we write you this morning, as we learned that Saidat's husband went home to be with the Lord on Monday night as the result of a hit-and-run crash.
The London Free Press quotes Pastor Bill Coleman as saying, "[Jason] is well-known in our community as a man with a very big heart, especially in his work with troubled youth. He's known as a hard worker and a man everybody respects because of his ethics. People are extremely sad and devastated and they're rallying around the family to provide whatever encouragement and comfort they can."
Please keep Saidat, their two children, and the rest of their family in your prayers in the weeks and months ahead.
Praying along with you,
Carrie and Michelle

Recently a gentleman, in whom has become somewhat of a grandfather to Brea since our move to Kelowna, helped me out by offering to pick up Brea from her volleyball practise. As Brea nears the age of 13, I and everyone else around us can testify to this young woman that is emerging. There is no denying the power and allure of a girl becoming woman. It is amazing. And despite that in between stage of pimples and braces, there is a deeper unseen but most valuable development in their heart and mind. There is this awareness and self consciousness that continues to pop up. This wondering of; “Do I fit in?” “Will I be accepted?” “Am I special?” “Do guys think I am pretty?” I bear witness to the deep need for young women to feel affirmed and a desire to be a princess. Granted it’s not in barbies, fairies and dolls anymore, but rather in the way they are treated and portrayed by those around. Grandpa Jack, picked Brea up and as she ran outside in her uniform. He was standing there front and centre incredibly proud. He then walked quickly to her side door and opened it for her just as royalty. The volleyball coach and fellow peers dumbfounded as they watched this magical moment with their classmate, Brea. As they drove away, being the first to leave the parking lot, she beamed her smile ear to ear as she batted her eyelashes lovingly to the open mouth stares of her friends. As soon as we got home, she declared with unceasing excitement “Mom, I felt so much like a princess!! It made me feel so special.” We had some serious giggles as she relived the expression on her coach and friends’ faces. “It was as if I was some movie star or something, mom!” How my heart smiled and treasured what had just taken place. For here is the truth. Her sweet, unknown delight of being affirmed and treated with such respect even at 13 years old is commonly wired into young women. I also felt confident with such a bar set in how a woman would like to be treated that I would encourage Grandpa Jack with his continued “standard”. For as her mother, it will make the dating years much simpler in that she will have come to love this bar of respect for a lady that she will grow up knowing. As young women, you ought to demand respect in a gentle and loving way for being the more delicate one. Despite the world’s desire for the contrary, it is in these pivotal years, that God will show you He has indeed wired his ladies to be princesses. The more you walk in this truth, the more the sweet delight will continue to flood both the smile on your face and your heart. carri.e.

Ok, so you reaaaallllllly want to come to ie girl with all your best girl friends, but maybe $65 is more than your whole life's savings....
We'll be posting ideas for how you can save up or earn money to come to ie girl, cause we know it's not always easy.
TIP #1: Ask for ie girl for Christmas! Chances are your parents, grandparents, guardian, aunt or uncle, friend, mentor, etc would LOVE to give you something that you would LOVE for Christmas...and let's face it, sometimes they just have no idea what's cool.
Why not ask them to help you come to ie girl? What could be better than that??

Has life become simpler or more complex? Do we shorten the term “weblog” to “blog” for
convenience or is there really a need for the “WE” in our fast paced” I” driven
society. From Ipods to Iphones, has the
“I” replaced the “we”? Has “We” quickly become yesterday? Even the Nintendo Wii chose to drop the “e”
for a double up on the “i”. May I
suggest we keep the “i” and the “e” to create “i.e” ,an Inspired Excellence
that no longer conforms to patterns the world dictates. But as a fellow young woman, I will choose to
step out of the mould with intentions of deepening the “WE”. Together we can make a difference. I believe in “We”.
